Character Interview: Matt Argento from Rend by Roan Parrish

Hello everyone! We are super excited to welcome Matt Argento, protagonist in Roan Parrish’s Rend to our blog today! This feature is the first part of a blog collaboration with the lovely Sadie from Sweet Fiction Silhouette. You can read part two – the interview with Matt’s husband Rhys – on her blog tomorrow, so don’t miss that!
We had a lot of fun planning this and coming up with questions, though the best Thing by far was reading their answers! (Also a massive thank you to Roan Parrish who was so kind to do this with us and Judith from A Novel Take PR!) We hope you enjoy!

What are three things you admire about your husband?

Um, I admire everything about him. Like three specific things? Okay, uh. He thinks the world’s a good place. Like, a sunny, happy place where people are kind. So then he kinda … makes it a good place. For me. Um. He’s an amazing musician and, okay, music’s not really my thing, but I know he is cuz I can listen to his stuff and feel … everything. Anyway, he worked as a musican for years and years and he didn’t want to be a star or anything. And now he kinda is, but he worked all those years doing music cuz he loves it. He loved playing on other people’s tours and writing songs for other people’s albums and I really admire that.

Three, you said? Well, okay, don’t tell Rhys this but um. No, never mind, you can tell him. I mean he knows. He … he makes people feel really safe. Me. He makes me feel really safe. It’s like this magic power he has, I dunno. But all he has to do is touch me and I feel like maybe everything’s gonna be okay.

What is one habit Rhys has that irritates you?

Oh he’s a total bossy know-it-all. And of course he’s basically always right, which is super irritating cuz that just makes him more bossy. Course, uh, I really … like how bossy he is. Like, in some situations…

What’s your favorite (g-rated) activity to do as a couple?

We take a walk every night with our dog, Max. It’s pretty great. It’s easier to talk when we’re walking, you know? Like the words disappear into the air. We live pretty near the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery so we’ll go walk around in there. Max loves to chase the squirrels. It’s really pretty. Sometimes we’ll sit for a while and Rhys’ll just kinda pull me close next to him and it’s like everything goes really quiet and perfect.

What is something we would be surprised to learn about you?

Uh, I don’t know? You don’t really know me so I guess everything? Sorry, I just, uh … Well, I like to draw? Not like … art or anything, just doodles I guess. But I draw this version of Rhys where he totally looks like Thor and he thinks it’s funny cuz I’m making a joke or whatever but it actually looks exactly like him. He gets this expression sometimes that’s like I AM THE MOST POWERFUL BEING IN THE MULTIVERSE and that’s what I drew.

Have/would you ever consider taking cooking lessons?

*groans* Ugh, god, I’d probably get expelled. Um. I am not a cook. I tried to cook something that Rhys’ mom helped me with and practically poisoned my husband, so … No. Well. I mean, I guess I would if Rhys really wanted us to…

Rapid-fire questions! (One word answers please!)

You go out together with a group of friends, who is the one *not* offering to pay the bill?

Um. Me I guess cuz I never have any money? Oh, shit that’s more than one word. Me?

Holiday movies, yes or no?

Depends on the holiday. Oh, dammit, um: Sometimes?

Something that relaxes you?

Rhys.

After a whirlwind romance, a man with a painful past learns to trust the musician who makes him believe in happy endings.

Matt Argento knows what it feels like to be alone. After a childhood of abandonment, he never imagined someone might love him—much less someone like Rhys Nyland, who has the voice of an angel, the looks of a god, and the worship of his fans.

Matt and Rhys come from different worlds, but when they meet, their chemistry is incendiary. Their romance is unexpected, intense, and forever—at least, that’s what their vows promise. Suddenly, Matt finds himself living a life he never thought possible: safe and secure in the arms of a man who feels like home. But when Rhys leaves to go on tour for his new album, Matt finds himself haunted by the ghosts of his past.

When Rhys returns, he finds Matt twisted by doubt. But Rhys loves Matt fiercely, and he’ll go to hell and back to triumph over Matt’s fears. After secrets are revealed and desires are confessed, Rhys and Matt must learn to trust each other if they’re going to make it. That means they have to fall in love all over again—and this time, it really will be forever.

Roan Parrish lives in Philadelphia, where she is gradually attempting to write love stories in every genre.

When not writing, she can usually be found cutting her friends’ hair, meandering through whatever city she’s in while listening to torch songs and melodic death metal, or cooking overly elaborate meals. She loves bonfires, winter beaches, minor chord harmonies, and self-tattooing. One time she may or may not have baked a six-layer chocolate cake and then thrown it out the window in a fit of pique.
