This series keeps me going, I swear. Every month Annie sends me an email with about seventeen exclamation points whenever one of these comes up for ARC request.

Eradani is doing a masterful job at taking us and the characters from a purely sexual arrangement to an emotional connection. In particular, seeing Daniel go through this is utterly fascinating. When I began this series, his characterization made it so hard to see how he was every going to become flexible enough for particular sex acts and scenes, much less a relationship. From the start Eradani showed us how Daniel is so tied to his routines that having another person interrupt them would throw him off — and he actively didn’t want someone there for those (such as his morning routine). To watch Daniel begin to soften those hard edges as he falls for Ryan has been really lovely. Eradani is doing this in a way that feels natural and right for both of them. Daniel hasn’t somehow become a completely new person for Ryan in any way. But he is learning by degrees to trust Ryan more and more; he’s becoming more and more willing to test his own boundaries in their play, and also, in their relationship.

Spa Weekend really grabbed me — Ryan kept Daniel on the edge and so utterly frustrated until his reward that I felt frustrated for him. For the first half I was unsure if I was going to be able to engage with the sexy aspects of the book because I really felt how Daniel was feeling (there’s a particular scene where Ryan seems to give Daniel what he wants but it functions to show us the ways in which Ryan really knows Daniel’s needs and exercises his role as the Dom in the situation masterfully).  By the end though…wow. Emotionally and sexually, this installment finished on a high note.

Weekend Getaway was good as well. I love that we’re seeing more of Daniel interacting with his family (even if it’s just on the phone with his sister) because it helps establish who he is with people he loves and cares about. Seeing these moments makes me excited as we really begin to see Daniel and Ryan fall for each other. One thing we get in this installment is what I’ve been looking forward to from the very first installment – Ryan asking Daniel to do something he isn’t comfortable with because it pushes his limits. I love how respectful Ryan is when Daniel says no, and I really love that Daniel eventually realizes he wants to try it, because he trusts Ryan that much and with him, wants to really go beyond his comfort zone. What they actually do wasn’t necessarily a *thing* for me, but kink-wise, many people will love it. At this point, I was so invested in what was happening emotionally and relationship-wise, the sex was secondary.

I have to say too, I read the preview for the next installment and OMG. Like. Oh Em Gee, my jaw dropped and I am…I cannot even wait to see what is happening in that one.
