ARC Review by Jude: Start of Something New by Tamryn Eradani

After a successful first scene together, Daniel and Ryan explore the possibility of continuing their relationship. Negotiating likes and dislikes in BDSM play is one thing, but can Daniel, who likes to keep his life ordered and free of mess, loosen up enough to let the relaxed and uninhibited Ryan deeper into his life?

This is a sequel to Delayed Gratification in the serial Daniel and Ryan Series. If you’d like to see my review for Delayed Gratification, it’s here. The next installment, Who I am When I’m With You,  will be available April 3rd. Both Delayed Gratification and the Start of Something New are on sale right now!

4 Stars

I really enjoyed this installment of the Daniel and Ryan series. While I liked the first one, you could tell that it was a lot of scene setting and working toward building what’s to come. I had stated in my review for Delayed Gratification that I was a little underwhelmed by the chemistry/sex in that book, considering what I like and look for in BDSM books. I definitely got what I wanted in this one!

The writing in this book works very well done– it’s clear and never once feels like it’s getting in the way of the action and storytelling. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the communication and honesty between Daniel and Ryan. I swear communication in kink negotiation is such a yum for me. I think what really works for me is how unapologetic Daniel is about what he does and doesn’t like, but how this feels like a great set-up for the future. I really hope that this means that as their play (and perhaps relationship) develops, Ryan will begin to unlock Daniel’s boundaries (with consent!). Daniel’s rules are very clear, but I think that there’s still an element of controlling the situation in them, and I feel the potential for more visceral submission once a different sort of trust changes or expands their relationship.

Of course, this is conjecture based on what I was reading in this, and naturally my own feelings on BDSM dynamics and my subby nature influence that.

I definitely recommend this. I would recommend you buy both and read them consecutively. The third is coming out soon, so the wait won’t be very long. Plus the first two are on sale right now.
