ARC Review by Jude: Graphite & Glitter by Shae Connor
Blurb:
All that glitters might just be gold.
Adrienne Michaels’ best friend is getting married, and Adrienne’s not feeling it on the night of the bachelorette party. Then she meets Tessa Smith, bass player for an all-female glam rock tribute band. After a one-night stand worthy of the hottest rock star fantasies, Tessa surprises Adrienne by asking her on a real date, and Adrienne soon finds Tessa’s side gig pales in comparison to the down-to-earth music geek beneath the glitter. Tessa even helps Adrienne through a family loss, but when Tessa gets a sweet job offer in another city, Adrienne has to make a choice: let her go, follow her halfway across the country—or become part of the reason for her to stay.

Graphite & Glitter is a short and sweet read. It’s novella length and a quick read, so if you’re in the mood for a quick romantic and sexy story, you might enjoy this.
I did enjoy this story. It is written well, and there were plot elements I really enjoyed. The way that Tessa helps Adrienne through the loss of her father is lovely, and I found it moving and thoughtful.
However, there were elements of the story that fell a little flat. The initial premise (the most amazing one night stand ever) didn’t really live up to it’s hype. The one night stand as written was fine — anywhere else in a book or with a different emphasis in the blurb would have been okay — but it definitely didn’t read as a scene that blew me away it was so hot. Likewise, the premise at the end (Tessa being offered a job in another city) was resolved much too easily.
That said, I enjoyed their love story, and this was a nice escape from my currently insane life.
