I really liked The Tournament of Losers by Megan Derr, so when I started this I expected something equally good. And while I didn’t love it as much as TToL I still really enjoyed this one. Megan Derr created a great fantasy world with necromancers and magis and dragons.
I particularly liked that we had a necromancer as MC because usually the books aren’t written in their POV. So that was nice and refreshing. And I’ll have to look for more books with necromancers where they’re not the “bad guys”.

The story starts with Tilo, a young dragon, “picking up” Rochus, the necromancer in an inn. They spent the night together and it’s only the next day that Rochus finds out Tilo is his husband to be. I won’t go into specifics on why they have to marry as to not spoil the story. But I loved the back and forth between the two.
Rochus isn’t sure what to make of Tilo and he also isn’t sure if Tilo really wanted him or if that was him trying to see if he could be with a necromancer. So there’s a bit of hurt feelings but these two also have great chemistry and I really enjoyed reading about that.

And can I just mention Rochus’ pets? They might have been the highlight of this story. Especially Fury!

I was a bit sad that this one was so short because the end seemed a bit too fast and I would have loved to see more of Tilo and Rochus.
But overall this was a very enjoyable story. I recommend it.
