Review: Him by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?
Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend…and a big one to learn about himself.

My Review:

After reading Avon Gale’s Breakaway and Save of the Game I was looking for more books featuring hockey. And this one was one that was recommended to me on twitter. I’m not sure who it was, but if you’re reading this THANK YOU!
I hadn’t heard of this book before and I’m so happy someone told me about it!

It’s a really sweet and funny story with cute characters that are still figuring out who they are.

Wes and Jamie met at a hockey camp when they were still kids. Every year they’d meet again at the camp and spent the summer together playing hockey. And when summer was over they’d say goodbye until the next year. They only had those 6 weeks each summer because they lived at opposite sides of the country. But during that time a friendship built and grew stronger.
That all stopped when a stupid bet was made and one of them wasn’t sure how to handle the aftermath so he disappeared.

It takes four years until they meet again. By then they’re in their final year at college, each playing in the college hockey final with their team. When they meet again it’s like no time has passed since Wes and Jamie last talked to each other.

I loved how Jamie came to realize that he’s bisexual. He was torn up about it, questioned it and ultimately realised that yes he loved his best friend.
I’m a sucker for friends-to-lovers stories and this one hit all the right buttons. I loved the slow built-up and the getting to know each of the boys before they fell in love.

The writing in this is perfect, the story moves at a great pace and oh it features some really hot scenes! But there’s also romance there that never veers into a too-sappy place. It’s always just right and just enough to leave the reader in a puddle of goo on the floor and the end…*sigh* SO SO BEAUTIFUL! ❤

Him is a fantastic book! It left a huge grin on my face because it was adorable, sexy and entertaining from the first page to the last! Highly recommended!
