What Rock N Soul is about:

I’m Tyler Lindsey, and until recently, I had an okay apartment, an okay girlfriend, and an okay job as a bellboy at a respectable Boston hotel. Then rock star Chris Raiden died right before I brought his room service—stiffing me on the tip, by the way—and my life went to hell. My fifteen minutes of fame was more like five seconds, and my girlfriend left me in disgust.

But even worse—Chris is haunting me. Not the room where he died, like a normal ghost. No, somehow he’s stuck to me and is insisting on taking care of a bunch of unfinished business in California. So now I have to traipse across the country with the world’s most narcissistic ghost.

But . . . I keep having these weird thoughts. Thoughts about how much I like the way he makes me laugh. Thoughts where I kind of want to kiss the emo-narcissist, even though he’s a ghost and an asshole and I can’t touch him anyway. And even if I could, what will happen when he finishes his business and nothing’s keeping him here anymore?

My Review:

I haven’t read many ghost books before and they’re not what I usually like, but when I read the summary for this one on Riptide I really wanted to read it. It just sounded like it was a great story and I was so excited to start it when it finally downloaded on my kindle!

The book starts with Tyler running around in Boston late at night trying, to find red seedless grapes for a guest staying in the hotel he works for as bellboy. He’s lucky and finds seedless grapes but upon his return in the hotel he also finds Chris Raiden dead on the floor of his room. Definitely not what he expected. Just like he doesn’t expect Chris’ ghost to appear when Tyler has to clean up something in the same room about two months after Chris Raiden died.

It took me a bit to really get into this story. Mainly because I really didn’t understand why Tyler would ever stay with his girlfriend, yes I get that she’s apparently a good lay, but seriously, the sex can’t be THAT good to endure her constant bitching and complaining. She was just horrible and annoying and I was SO happy when she was out of the picture. The reason why I kept going was Tyler. Mostly his snarky comments. I loved him from the first minute. And I’m so glad I kept on reading because the story just got better when Chris appeared (again).

It’s about two months after Chris Raidens death that Tyler has to go to the room again and while he’s cleaning under the sink he finds a ring that belonged to Chris. When he puts it on VOILA! Chris appears. I enjoyed THAT scene so much.

“… Chris Raiden was staring at me from the doorway of the bathroom. And he was… slightly transparent.
I blinked at the cart for a few seconds while my brain tried to process everything. Then, without planning to, I screamed.
“Shut up, dude!”, the ghost of Chris Raide said, holding his hands up. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
“Like hell you’re not,” I shouted, and was pleasently surprised that my voice had returned to its usual pitch.
“I’ve seen plenty of horror movies.”

This book has so many scenes in it that made me laugh out loud, the one above is just one of them, but I can’t quote them all here. 😉

At first the two of them don’t get along so much and it takes them a while to warm up to another.
I really enjoyed both of them slowly breaking down the walls they had build around themselves and once those walls are gone you can’t help but fall for both of them. I LOVED Chris’ antics (and I can’t imagine how boring it must be as a ghost when you’re bound to one person but can’t really do anything.)

I loved the chemistry and the slow burn romance between Tyler and Chris. They really are perfect for each other. What I had problems getting into was them having sex. I mean the scenes were hot and really well-written, but it seemed a bit weird to imagine them having sex when Chris is see-through.

Other than that I really enjoyed and definitely recommend Rock N Soul. It has a perfect mix of humor, wit, romance and heartbreak.
